Station 56

Upper Macungie Township Station 56, Inc. was founded in 2008 after a study by the township into current firefighting abilities and expected growth areas in the township. We responded to our first call in May 2008 with our original piece of firefighting equipment, Attack 5671. Engine 5611 was delivered in August of that year and quickly placed in service. Station 56 works closely with the township’s other fire departments, Station 8 (Fogelsville Volunteer Fire Company) and Station 25 (Goodwill Fire Company, Trexlertown) to serve over 20,000 residents and businesses in western Lehigh County.

The Station 56 fire team consists of approximately 25 dedicated and hard-working volunteers and is led by Fire Chief Leroy Gross. Station 56 volunteers respond to over 600 calls for emergency assistance each year including residential and commercial fires, medical assistance, vehicle rescues and occasionally for a cat stuck in a tree. Yes, it really does happen!

FOGELSVILLE VOLUNTEER FIRE CO. STATION 8

Station 8

The Fogelsville Volunteer Fire Company was formed on Feb. 2, 1916, but it was not until July 3, 1918 that the town of Fogelsville had its first firehouse, when the fire company and A.C. Hittle, who owned the 16-by-32-foot tract along what is now Church Street, signed a formal agreement.

Nestled in a Fogelsville hillside along Church Street across from St. John’s Lutheran Church is a garage door leading to the original site of the Fogelsville Fire Company. There is no building to see, just a front wall with a white door. Extending out from this front wall are two retaining walls, one on each side, to prevent dirt and debris from falling onto the driveway.
