James' Story

James Ellermann, 39, comes from a long history of family members volunteering from the state of Montana to New Jersey.

“I was never able to serve my country in the armed forces so this was my ambition to give back,” said James.

He is an active firefighter at Upper Macungie Township Station 56 and joined 17 years ago as a fire police volunteer, directing traffic at the scene of emergencies.

Since joining, he has advanced through completing dozens of fire classes. He now drives the fire trucks and is a fully certified EMT. “There are no ends to what the fire service can bring out of you and no ends for what you can do for the fire department,” said James.

If you want to gain friends who are like family or want to make a difference in your own neighborhood, you should consider becoming a volunteer.

“Ever wonder what goes on at a fire or car accident scene?” asks James. “How about if I told you instead of watching it you could be a part of it?”If you’re ready to get off the sidelines and join the action, learn more and sign up at https://umtfire.com/.
