Leroy's Story

Leroy Gross has been a volunteer with the fire departments of Upper Macungie Township for 39 years, and is currently a firefighter and driver. He was the first Chief of Upper Macungie Township Station 56 and served in that role for 12 years. Leroy said serving as the first Chief was an honor and kept him very busy.

Leroy first started volunteering at Good Will Fire Company #1 of Trexlertown (Station 25) because both of his parents volunteered there. “I was always there with them,” he said. “It was the right thing to do.”

What he enjoys most about volunteering is getting to help people in the community and encourages others to join. “The experience is very rewarding and you’ll find comradery in our team,” said Leroy. “Come out Tuesday nights to the fire station; we need volunteers! We’re looking for both firefighters and fire company business members.”
